I was never really artistic growing up. I would doodle and copy cartoon characters as a kid, but didnt like art at school.
After 6 and a half years in the army, followed by 17 years in the Police, I ended up in a Veteran's Hospital. I was introduced to Art Therapy as a way of managing PTSD and at first didnt take to it. But in November 2018, while hospitalised, I was sitting at a table with a few other Veteran's while one was painting and I started drawing. I purchased a set of cheap oil pastels and added a bit of colour and before I knew it I had found my medium.
A few years later and I love drawing with Oil Pastels and painting with acrylic paints. I am involved in a Veteran's Art Group and show my work in exhibitions through this group and at the Jamie Larcombe Centre, the Veteran's Hospital that saved my life.
