ARTIST BIO

Watercolour art has always caused a reaction of deep joy and excitement visually and emotionally within me. This built into a long-held hope over 45 years that, when the time was right, I would explore the world of watercolour art. That time has come with retirement 5 years ago and so the journey began and is exploding within me both during the day and in my dreams……... I am painting most nights in my sleep. I hadn’t had any formal teaching until completing a 3-day masterclass with Ross Paterson in 2023. I have joined a few group classes over time.

Bit by bit I have learnt from failed ideas and happy outcomes, artist friends’ input and encouragement and, very importantly to me, the gift given by my Creator. The joy wells up and spills into form and colour with each painting. Every art exhibition I attend my eyes quickly scan the room to see if there are any watercolour works on display. I delight to find them among the works in other media. Since joining a few groups of like-minded artists I sense I have found my “tribe”.

Please enjoy my expression across a variety of subjects. Flowers do feature the most; my favourite childhood photo is of myself holding a poppy and looking mesmerised. To this day poppies are a favourite in my art.

I have travelled extensively and collected photos of interesting subjects for decades believing that I would use some of them in my art subjects. Many are of Latvian sheds, mushrooms, forests and landscapes. I am yet to paint from my time living in Myanmar, Kalimantan and Papua New Guinea……they are in the pipe-line.

I had the great experience of a solo exhibition in 2022 and also a 1st prize in Section at the Gawler Show. I followed up with another solo exhibition at the TTG Library in 2023. In 2023 I won 1st prize in Section at the 14th Solar Art Prize at RSASA.
