Who knew that the love of wood, handed down from his father, would lead to a hobby that is relaxing and rewarding. Tony has a long history with wood and creating - he learned alongside his father that wood could be many things, useful furniture, utensils and objects to please the eye, depending on your own creativity and capability.
Tony has been able to develop his skills as a carpenter, builder and most recently teacher - he is pleased to say that while teaching in WA two of his students were placed 1st and 2nd in the 2005 Working with Wood Show.
He further developed his knowledge and creativity using solid timber to design and create unique pieces of furniture. Developing his creative side, he turned to glass and while teaching the art of Lead Lighting he and a group from his class designed and constructed Lead Light windows for the chapel at Ascension Lutheran Church - one of these windows won 1st prize at the Rockingham Arts and Craft Show.
Preparing for future retirement he has developed into a fine wood turner and spends many hours quietly contemplating beautiful pieces of timber and imagining what they will become.
He presently lives & creates on Hindmarsh Island South Australia.
Tony has become a prize-winning wood artist at the 2019 Adelaide Royal Show. |
